We measure the differential cross-section with respect to Feynman<math>-x\,\!</math> <math>(x_{F})\,\!</math> and transverse momentum <math>(P_T)\,\!</math> for charm meson production using targets of <math>Be, Al, Cu\,\!</math> and <math>W\,\!</math>. In the range <math>0.1 < x_{F} < 0.7, d\sigma/dx_{F}\,\!</math> is well fit by the form <math>(1 - x_{F})^{n}\,\!</math> with <math>n = 3.9 \pm 0.2\,\!</math>. The difference between n values for <math>D^-\,\!</math> and <math>D^+\,\!</math> is <math>1.1 \pm 0.4.\,\!</math> However, we find an asymmetry of <math> 0.18 \pm 0.04 \,\!</math> favoring the production of <math>D^{-}\,\!</math> compared to <math>D^+\,\!</math>. In the lower <math>P_T\,\!</math> range,<math> < 2 GeV\,\!</math>, <math> d \sigma /dP^{2}_{T}\,\!</math> is well fit by the form exp <math>(-b x P^{2}_{T})\,\!</math> with <math>b = 1.03 \pm 0.04 \,\!</math> <math>GeV^{-2}\,\!</math>, while in the higher <math>P_T\,\!</math> range, <math>0.8\,\!</math> to <math>3.6 \,\!</math> <math>GeV\,\!</math>, it is well fit by the form exp <math>(-b' x P_{T})\,\!</math> with <math>b'\,\!</math> <math>= 2.76 \pm 0.06 GeV^{-1}\,\!</math>. The shape of the differential cross-section has no significant dependence on atomic mass of the target material.
