Descrição
The spin echo <math> ^{155}Gd\,\!</math> and <math>^{157}Gd\,\!</math> NMR was used to study the intermetallic compounds <math>Gd_{2}Ni_{17}\,\!</math>, <math>GdNi_{5}\,\!</math>, <math>GdNi_{3}\,\!</math>, <math>GdNi_{2}\,\!</math> and GdNi.These compounds have different crystal structures and order ferri- or ferromagnetically. The measurements were performed at 4.2 K and 1.5 K. The NMR spectra were compared to computed line positions obtained from the diagonalization of the complete hyperfine hamiltonian. The differences in the values of <math>B_{hf}\,\!</math> at the two sites of Gd in <math>Gd_{2}Ni_{17}\,\!</math> and <math>GdNi_{3}\,\!</math>, of the order of 18 T and 6 T,respectively, may be justified, in a semi-quantitative way, through the RKKY model. We observed a strong quadrupole interaction at the Gd sites in the compounds <math>GdNi_{5}\,\!</math>, <math>Gd_{2}Ni_{17}\,\!</math>, and in one of the sites of the compound <math>GdNi_{3}\,\!</math>; in all these cases, the values of <math>V_{zz}\,\!</math> are higher than <math>7.0 \times 10^{21}V/m^{2}\,\!</math>. The NMR results in GdNi are consistent with a direction of magnetization along the '''b''' axis. No NMR signal could be unambiguously attributed to <math>^{61}Ni\,\!</math> nuclei. This work presents the first NMR results of the Gd-Ni intermetallic compounds.
