- The large <math>N</math> limit of an extreme type II superconductor in a magnetic field <math>H</math> is considered at fixed dimensionality <math>d=3</math>. It is shown that the effective interaction remains always positive, contrary to earlier claims. However, it is shown that no fixed point is reached in the infrared if <math>H\neq 0</math>, which could be interpreted as a first-order transition. The important role of the two scales of the problem is discussed.
