- We obtain sum rules that should be satisfied by the solutions of the Euler-Lagrange equation for the chiral angle in the Skyrme model in the hedgehog representation. The sum rules allow to determine the existence of solutions with integer baryon number for well determined values of a relevant dimensionless parameter F only. For all other values, there are no solutions with integer baryon number, in particular for the pure nonlinear sigma model.
