Descripción
The experimental formation factor <math>(F)\,\!</math> vs. porosity <math>(\phi )\,\!</math> as well as resistivity index <math>(I)\,\!</math> vs. water saturation <math>(S_{w})\,\!</math> results typically present, in double-logarithmic representation, bendings which we now interpret as crossovers between different fractal-like regimes. We consistently propose for the ratio (rock resistivity)/(brine resistivity) <math>= R_{t}/R_{w} = F(\phi)I(S_{w})\,\!</math>, where the functional form of <math>F(\phi)\,\!</math> and of <math>I(S_{w})\,\!</math> is a simple one and the same. This proposal yields <math>F \sim \phi^{-m}\,\!</math> and <math>F \sim B_{F}\phi^{-m'}\,\!</math> in the <math>\phi \rightarrow 1\,\!</math> and <math>\phi \rightarrow 0\,\!</math> limits respectively, as well as <math>I \sim S_{w} ^{-n}\,\!</math> and <math>I \sim B_{I}S_{w} ^{-n'}\,\!</math> in the <math>S_w \rightarrow 1\,\!</math> and <math>S_w \rightarrow 0\,\!</math> limits respectively <math>(m, m', B_{F}, n, n'\,\!</math> and <math>B_I\,\!</math> are rock parameters); hence Archie's law <math>R_{t}/R_{w} \sim \phi ^{-m} S_{w}^{-n}\,\!</math> is recovered in the <math>(\phi, S_{w}) \rightarrow (1,1) \,\!</math> limit. The agreement between theory and experiments is quite satisfactory ''for the entire range of'' <math>(\phi, S_{w})\,\!</math>. The use of the present generalized Archie's law into electrical resistivity logs improves the precision of the evaluation of the hydrocarbon reserves.
