<math>^{57}Fe\,\!</math> - and <math>^{119}Sn\,\!</math> Mössbauer effect studies on <math>0.5at% ^{57}Fe\,\!</math> <math>(or ^{119}Sn)\,\!</math> doped non-superconducting <math>La_{1.25}\,\!</math> <math>Nd_{0.6}\,\!</math> <math>Sr_{0.15}\,\!</math> <math>CuO_4\,\!</math> in the temperature region <math>300 K \ge T \ge 4.2 K\,\!</math> reveal an onset of local magnetic ordering occuring at <math>T_{M}\simeq 32 K</math> for both <math>^{57}Fe\,\!</math> - as well as <math>^{119}Sn\,\!</math>-doped samples. The local magnetic ordering shows up in the presence of a very large transferred hyperfine field of <math>B_{thf} \sim 11.0(5) T\,\!</math> at the <math>^{119}Sn\,\!</math> nuclei. Since such a large field is neither present in antiferromagnetic <math>La_{2}CuO_4\,\!</math>, nor in superconducting <math>La_{1.85}Sr_{0.15}CuO_{4}\,\!</math> or overdoped <math>La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4} (x = 0.4)\,\!</math>, the occurrence of such local spin correlations seems to be a signature of the non-superconducting low temperature tetragonal phase of<math> La_{1.25}Nd_{0.6}Sr_{0.15}CuO_4\,\!</math>.
