- The optimization of the recently generalized entropy <math>S_{q} \equiv \{1-\int dx[p(x)]^{q}\}/(q-1)\,\!</math> with the constraints <math>\int dxp(x)=1\,\!</math> and <math><x^{2}>_{q} \equiv \int dx x^{2} [p(x)]^{q} =1\,\!</math> yields the Student's t-distribution for <math>q > 1\,\!</math>, and the r-distribution for <math>q < 1\,\!</math>.
