<dd>A technique of regarding the line elemement of space-time appropriate to each field variable as an operator acting on this variable allows a simple derivation of the free field relativistic wave equations, the geometrical nature of which is the line element. An illustrative example is the derivation of Einstein's linear equation for weak gravitational fields and the exact equation in the absence of matter.</dd>
