Description
In an experiment using the Tagged Photon Spectrometer at Fermilab we have studied the photoproduction of <math>J/\psi\,\!</math> mesons on hydrogen, beryllium, iron, and lead targets at a mean photon energy of 120 GeV. The <math>p^2_T\,\!</math> spectra were used to separate the coherent diffractive signals from the incoherent signals. We have parameterized the per nucleus cross sections in terms of power law dependences, <math>A^\alpha\,\!</math>. For a sample of approximately 2100 <math> \psi \rightarrow \mu ^+ \mu ^- \,\!</math> events with <math>E_\psi > 80 \,\!</math> GeV we find that <math>\alpha\,\!</math> = 1.40 <math>\pm\,\!</math> 0.06 <math>\pm\,\!</math> 0.04 for the coherent diffractive signals and that <math>\alpha\,\!</math> = 0.94 <math>\pm\,\!</math> 0.02 <math>\pm\,\!</math> 0.03 for the incoherent signals.
