- Description
- Using the quantity normally scaled in multifractals we postulate a generalized form for the entropy, namely <math>S_q \equiv k\left[1-\sum^W_{i=1} p^q_i\right]/(q-1)</math>, where <math>q\in I\!\!R </math> characterizes the generalization and <math>\{p_i\}\,\!</math> are the probabilities associated with W (microscopic) configurations <math>(W \in I\!\!N)</math>. We establish the main properties associated with this entropy, in particular those corresponding to the microcanonical and canonical ensembles. The Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics is recovered as the <math>q \rightarrow 1</math> limit.
