Description
An analysis of the total photoabsorption cross section for nuclei ranging from <math>^{4}He\,\!</math> up to <math>^{238}U\,\!</math> has been performed in the energy range <math>0.2 - 1.0 \,\!</math> <math> GeV \,\!</math>. Mean total photoabsorption cross sections have been obtained by summing up the contributions from partial photoreactions, and found to follow an <math>A^{1}\,\!</math>-dependence in the <math>0.2 - 1.0 \,\! </math> <math>GeV\,\!</math> range. A review of the available total photoabsorption cross section data is also presented. Comparisons have been made with cross section values calculated by considering both the quasi-deuteron and <math>\pi\,\!</math>-meson photoproduction mechanism of primary nuclear photointeraction.
