Description
We study the biological motion of a magnetotactic bacterium. Using the formalism of rigid body dynamics together with the fact that Reynolds number is small, we derive the equations of motion. Magnetotactic bacterium is treated in the formalism as a general case of a non-magnetotactic one. The equations of motion are integrated numerically and comparison with experimental data are made. It is showed how the model can help to treat experimental data. It is argued that it is biologicaly advantageous for a magnetotactic bacterium to have a flagellum highly asymmetric.
