- Description
- We have performed measurements of electrical resistivity, AC susceptibility, magnetization, Mössbauer effect and NMR on the series of intermetallic compounds <math>Ce(Ru_{1-x}M_{x})_{2}Ge_{2}, M = Fe,Au\,\!</math> for <math> 0 \le x \le 0.1.</math> The parent compound <math>CeRu_{2}Ge_{2}\,\!</math> orders ferromagnetically below <math>7.5 K\,\!</math>, with f-electrons showing only a small mass-enhancement at low temperatures. However, its crystal structure and Fermi surface are closely related to the heavy-electron superconductor <math>CeRu_{2}Si_{2}\,\!</math> . Analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed the structure to be of the <math>ThCr_{2}Si_{2}-type\,\!</math>, with no foreign phases detected. The results of our Mössbauer studies indicate that Fe goes into the Ru sites with no magnetic moment. NMR signals were observed in the Fe-doped samples with quadrupolar interaction that can be related to <math>^{73}Ge\,\!</math> nucleus <math>(I = 9/2)\,\!</math> .
