Description
The properties of the only static nonflat plane-symmetric vacuum model of Einstein's field equations without cosmological term (Taub's solution) are investigated: isometries, analogy to Kasner's spatially homogeneous and Rindler's spacetimes, geodesics, asymptotic structure, weak field limit, pertainment to the Schwarzschild family of spacetimes, and matching to other spacetimes (Rindler's and Kasner's) by means of massive or null shells. It is emphasized that it does not represent, in a physically completely satisfactory way, the gravitational field of an infinite uniform plane of ordinary matter. In particular, several arguments are furnished in favor of its interpretation as due to a system with negative mass.
