Description
We present the Fermilab E791 measurement of baryon - antibaryon asymmetries in the production of <math>\Lambda^{\circ}, \Xi, \Omega\,\!</math> and <math>\Lambda_c \,\!</math> in <math> 500 GeV /c \,\!</math> <math>\pi^- \,\!</math> - nucleon. Asymmetries have been measured as a function of <math>x_F\,\!</math> and <math>p_T^2\,\!</math> over the range <math>-0.12 < x_F < 0.12\,\!</math> and <math>p_T^2 < 4 (GeV/c)^2\,\!</math> for hyperons and <math>-0.1 < x_F < 0.3 \,\!</math> and <math>p_T^2<8 (GeV/c)^2\,\!</math> for the <math>\Lambda_c\,\!</math> baryons. We observe clear evidence of leading particle effects and a basic asymmetry even at <math>x_F=0\,\!</math> . These are the first high statistics measurements of the asymmetry in both the target and beam fragmentation regions in a fixed target experiment.
