Description
In this paper we discuss, having in mind both students and researchers, the importance of interdisciplinarity in the study of natural systems. In particular, the so called ``hard'' sciences (physics and chemistry) have been shown to be extremely important in the \textit{explanatory} approach to describe natural systems. Some examples of ecosystems and a list of pertinent scales in their description are presented. Modeling proposals based in the above identified scales, are also mentioned.
