<dd>O presente artigo tem o objetivo de apresentar o resultado da pesquisa bibliográfica que resultou na dissertação do curso de pós graduação “strictu sensu” Mestrado em educação, realizado na Universidade Católica de Petrópolis (UCP) sobre o tema: A Educação Ambiental é um instrumento para que se alcance o desenvolvimento sustentável – uma pesquisa feita em Petrópolis – RJ. O que se pretende a princípio é estabelecer uma clara compreensão sobre o que é a Educação Ambiental e saber como é percebido o desenvolvimento sustentável. Tomou-se para a base de estudo a teoria dos valores, pois a apreensão do valor meio ambiente é essencial para a sobrevivência e preservação da espécie humana. Posteriormente, se fez uma análise sobre a questão da educação da razão e da educação da sensibilidade e sobre o conceito de conhecimento, considerando-se o estabelecimento de uma nova cultura.</dd>
